IKEI

The Intentional Keyword Effectiveness Index (IKEI) is an indicator balancing both the search volume and the (intentional) competition. Higher value is better.

Sumantra Roy, a SEO specialist  invented KEI and its also use by Wordtracker keyword tool.

KEI is a standard to measure the effectiveness of a keyword comparing its potential traffic volume with its competition. The formula is so formulated that with even competition the keyword with the higher traffic volume has a higher KEI.

Competition is defined as the number of Search Results on a keyword Query. In Google par example it’s the number of results: Results 1 - 10 van circa 892.000 for [keyword]

IKEI opposing KEI

But these results include urls that have no intention to ‘score’ in a search engine.

Therefore we use the more accurate IKEI that looks how many results appears for the query: intitle:[keyword] inanchor:[keyword].

These results only include URL which have two important SEO factors included:

  • The keyword is in the Title
  • The keyword is in at least 1 incoming Link

This two factors uncovers urls that have ‘the intention’ to score in organic search results. So in the IKEI opposing KEI the intentional SEO competition is measured against the traffic volume in a keyword.
