How to create functional Page Titles?

Always try to include the most relevant keyword(s) in the page Title. Many engines place a high degree of relevancy on pages that mention a search keyword in the page title. In the HTML source code of the page, the page title is defined in the <TITLE> tag.

Example:

<TITLE>All the information about keywords you will ever need.</TITLE>

Hints:

·         Make a unique page title for each webpage that covers the content of that particularly page.

·         Do not repeat keywords in the page title. e.g.: keyword, keyword, keyword.

·         Keep the page title brief. Including too many keywords may dilute your overall relevancy rating.

·         Aim to use a grammatically correct sentence as the title, rather than just a list of keywords.

You must spend the necessary time and effort in composing and "fine-tuning" an effective page title describing your website. This is a lot more powerful than simply using "Welcome to my Home Page" (which, by the way, is a nice comment to make, but will not be effective in getting a high Ranking with the main search engines). The main reason is because most of the major search engines actually use the words and phrases found in the title of the website as keywords for searching. Here are some points to avoid when developing and creating a working page title for your web pages:

Untitled pages
Having no Page Title on your page can make it practically impossible to find it in any search engine.

Titles that do not describe individual pages
Almost half of all poorly ranked sites in many of the major search engines do not specifically identify the Homepage in their page title. Most websites simply include the company name, making it impossible for a user to know exactly to which particular webpage a bookmark or search result relates. This is very important for companies whose sites are likely to be bookmarked more than once, such as online retailers and financial institutions that provide online account access.
