What is the function of Description Meta Tags

Description Meta Tags directly represent what will appear as the "summary" of your web site. This will be displayed after the Title of your website in any Search result or "listing". The content of the description should clearly communicate what a Visitor to your web site can expect to find when linking to your site, and you should consider including keywords in the description to help boost the Ranking of the page even further. Also, avoid simply pasting your keywords here as most Search Engine users will not respond well to a search result that does not contain a short explanation of your page. You should try to 'hide' the keywords within the description so that you achieve more favorable results within an engine listing. This makes the Description {ShowGlossar:301} the perfect opportunity to repeat keywords and add more key phrases to all of your web pages!

Try to create something that makes sense for human readers too because most search engines will take that and use it to describe your site. Just remember to make sure that your keywords are well represented and don't repeat the company name unless it has actually contains keywords.

Call for action
Remember that the title will be in the search engine results. Good ranking is one. A good click thru rate is 2. So place a call for action in the title and the description! This is very important because your popularity is measured by Link Popularity and click thru and site stickiness from the Search Results. The engines measure how many times visitors click thru to your site and how long they stay there before hitting the back button and try another site. Of course this is also important for your conversion rates: costumers directly hitting the Back button will not see your site, nor buy from you.

Use the Search engine listing tool in your SEO Effect to see if your URL will get a nice "call for action".
