Popularity Component and Search Engine Optimization Click-popularity
Clicks are another way of measuring popularity. Of the millions of results that search engines serve, only a few of them get clicked. Sometimes people come back to the search result shortly after they click, and click another Link or make a new search. This is a way of counting if the site is of use to the Visitor. The less time the visitor spends on your site and clicks back to the search engine, the less popular you are.
When analyzed, these clicks tell the search engine what users find most important, and where they find the best answers to their searches. However, although Google uses it, click-popularity is not widely used and is not a dominating factor. Nevertheless, click-popularity is one of the parameters of search engine rankings that you should not try to manipulate in any way! Don't try to boost your own click-popularity by doing hundreds of searches and then clicking on all your own links. It won't work. Search engines that do recognize click popularity are way too smart for that.
