After criticism from the publishers world, a link has recently been added to the website:

Why should I start with AMP?

Short answer: For your mobile rankings.

Long answer: Google has announced that in mobile search results, it will benefit AMP pages:

  1. They have that nice icon next to the result  (more visibility).
  2. They will score higher in the future, but not yet. (main reason).
  3. Because they load much faster (good for Google and your usability). According to Google, 40% of users leave a page on mobile if it’s loading for more than 3 seconds.
  4. Because Google also rolls out AMP Adwords ads.

Why should I not use AMP?

Short answer: your visitors will not really use your site.

Long answer: you ceed control to Google. A short term gain with a long term risk. Nicely explained here. Perhaps the best thing would be if you could use this format on your own server and your own url’s (but don’t hold your breath).
